JithuzskA´s Redactor

Josef Čapek was a Czech painter, printmaker and writer. He studied decorative painting at the School of Applied Arts in Prague, where he was influenced by the highly decorative art of the Secession. During this period he wrote stories with his brother, the famous novelist Karel Capek (1890–1938). In 1910 they went to Paris for nearly a year, where Josef Capek studied painting at the Académie Colarossi and became a friend of Apollinaire. In 1911 he and his brother co-founded the Cubist-orientated Group of Plastic Artists.

Capek attempted to modify Cubism by introducing elements of Expressionism and Symbolism. From 1915 he began to achieve a synthesis of Cubism, Neo-classicism and a personal symbolism. In the 1920s his paintings and prints became more densely woven, more expressive and more concerned with issues of civilian and suburban life. He also undertook theatre design, journalism and book illustration as well as publishing his own theoretical essays. In the late 1920s he became greatly influenced by folk art, painting simplified images of houses and countryside in bold strokes of bright colour.

In 1938 he painted the first pictures of his cycle Fire, whose large, gesturing figures played out a warning against war. On 1 September 1939 he was arrested by the Germans and taken to Dachau, and later to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where he died.

JithuzskA´s Roguishness - FRIDA KAHLO

Considered one of Mexico’s greatest artists, Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderón began painting after she was severely injured in a bus accident. In 1926, Frida painted her first self-portrait: "Self-Portrait in a Velvet Dress", her first serious work and the first of many self-portraits to come.

Frida and her husband Diego

In 1928, Kahlo connected with Diego Rivera. He encouraged her artwork, and the two began a relationship. In 1929 they married - She described the marriage as being: "… the marriage between an elephant and a dove." Despite all of the physical and emotional pain in Frida’s life, she was an outgoing person who used many 4 letter words in her conversations. She loved to smoke, drink tequila and sing off color songs to guests at the many parties she hosted. She loved telling dirty jokes just to shock her guests. On the night of July 13th, 1954, Frida died in the "Blue House" where she was born 47 years earlier. The cause of death was officially reported as "pulmonary embolism". Her ashes were placed in a pre-Columbian urn which is on display in the "Blue House" that she shared with Diego.

"Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser (December 15, 1928 – February 19, 2000) was an Austrian painter and architect. Born Friedrich Stowasser in Vienna, he became one of the best-known contemporary Austrian artists, although controversial, by the end of the 20th century.

some paintings by Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser

Hundertwasser’s original and unruly artistic vision expressed itself in pictorial art, environmentalism, philosophy, and design of facades, postage stamps, flags, and clothing (among other areas). The common themes in his work utilised bright colours, organic forms, a reconciliation of humans with nature, and a strong individualism, rejecting straight lines.

He was fascinated with spirals, and called straight lines "the devil’s tools". He called his theory of art "transautomatism", based on Surrealist automatism, but focusing on the experience of the viewer, rather than the artist."
